The Secure Sockets Layer is the standard for secure data transmission over the Internet which was created by Netscape. With Netscape''s security technology information you send can be trusted to arrive privately and unaltered to the server you specify. Most modern web browsers support Secure Sockets Layer. One problem with communicating sensitive information over the Internet is that almost every connection between two computers over a network involves many intermediate steps. A chain of computers that successively receive and forward the information until it reaches its destination. This process is called called routing which is fundamental to all Internet communication and any computer in the routing chain has complete access to all the data it receives. This makes it possible for someone to intercept your private conversations. The use of SSL addresses this problem by scrambling data sent from your browser to our server in such a way that only we can read it. This way, any intermediate computers involved in routing the information see only gibberish that they cannot decipher. When you want to place an order with our company you can verify that this is indeed a secure connection by two methods. You can tell whether a document comes from a secure server by looking at the location field otherwise known as the universal resource locator. If the URL begins with https:// instead of http:// then the document comes from a secure server. If you are using Netscape Navigator you can also verify the security of a document by examining the security icon in the bottom-left hand corner of the Netscape Navigator window. Normally there is a picture of a broken key on a grey background. This means that you are communicating insecurely. This is the way that it appears most of the time. When you go to our secure online order form you will notice that this key will turn into a solid gold key on a blue background.
